The new Stradbroke allotments on Draper’s Hill will become available from October 2012 and if you haven’t reserved one yet, please do so as soon as possible.
As soon as the weather allows the present wheat crop to be harvested, the whole field will be ploughed and harrowed. The allotment area will then be marked out, rabbit fenced, gated securely and the individual plots handed over to tenants as soon as possible.
The Stradbroke Allotment Gardeners Association (SAGA) has already been formed and a number of committee meetings held. Through SAGA discounted seeds, fertilisers etc will be available for members. Plus of course lots of free advice and shared experiences which will soon lead to your own supply of fresh vegetables, fruit and flowers.
There will also be a chicken co-operative that you can join and there may be the opportunity to have some space in a large polytunnel which will occupy one of the plots.
The majority of the plots are already taken but a few still remain.
Full plots are 20 x 12.5 metres and half plots are 10 x 12.5 metres or 20 x 6.25 metres.
Annual Rent: Full: £50 a year, Half: £30 a year
Please contact the SAGA secretary: Helen Pleasance, 12 Willow Close, Stradbroke.
