Please can anyone help me find more information about Harriet Aldous, born c.1793 at Stradbroke, d. of James and Elizabeth , married to Jonathan Walne (Warne?), born c. 1788 at Wingfield. Their daughter, Maria, married William Smith at Horham Baptist Church in 1821..William and Maria lived at Athelington for many years, and William was Parish Clerk.

Information about any of the above would be very gratefully received. I live in Devon and can only get up to Suffolk once a year.

Hi Sally

I do not know if you are still seeking information about Harriet Aldous, but it seems as though we have a mutual interest. I have been tracing the Aldous family for a couple of years and have found several links to Stradbroke. Unfortunately, although I have several James Aldous born in Stradbroke, I have no exact matches to your inquiry.

I have family trees that can be viewed on the Ancestry and genesreunited websites where you can see the information that I have gathered. If you are unable to access these trees and would like further information, you may contact me and I will try to help you. My email address is joealdous@yahoo.co.uk.

I would be very interested in any information that you might have regarding the Aldous family as this might help me extend or amend my family tree.

Best wishes.

Joe Aldous

I have been looking into the Aldous family, too. I have Philip Henry Aldous married to Bertha Pitt (b. Stradbroke, 1850) on 27.7.1873 at St. John the Baptist, Hoxton, London. They had a son, Herbert b.1876 in London. She later married William Joynt, grandfather of my Aunt (still living).

Thank you for your interest. The Aldous family appear to be well researched, although there do seem to be so many Johns and James's that it's difficult to sort them out. The Walne family also present problems because of the different spelling of the name - it can be Walne, Warne or Warn - and I wonder if also Warner, as at Wingfield. The Jonathan Walne I'm interested in was baptised at Wingfield, but died in the Hoxne Union workhouse at Stradbrooke.

Thank-you for your response. I wonder whether you could let me know of the best source for seeing what has been pieced together of Herbert Aldous and family. I am having a little trouble untangling it!
Thank-you - and if I can be of help to you do please contact me. My principal interest here is really the Joynt family but I have done quite a lot of work on the Watson family who are connected by marriage.

Hi Lorraine

I' afraid that I do not have any records of a Mary Ann Youell in my Aldous family tree. I may be able to trace any possible links if you can provide the date and place of the birth of George or his children.

I'm sure you must have some relatives out there somewhere!

Joe
