The Millenium celebrations in 2000 triggered tremendous interest in the village's past. One of the Millennium Committee's projects raised funds to restore a collection of glass negatives which recorded the village as it was from around the turn of the previous century. The success of that project led to the setting up of a Local History Group in 2001. The Stradbroke Local History Group's first priority was to gather as much material as they could from people in the village, many of whom had pictures and documents and memories handed down from from previous generations. By scanning the pictures and documents they were able to build up a large collection showing Stradbroke's past. Together with the Millenium Project's images this formed the basis of the "Stradbroke Village Archive" and items are still being added every month. The Local History Group and the Stradbroke Village Website team are currently digitising and putting online this archive. As you can imagine, this is a huge undertaking, but a message will be sent out to all website members and displayed on the SLHG page when this is launched in the next few months.
The Village Archive also benefits from another source of information. The Stradbroke Village Website has always attracted many people researching their family histories. Over the years many of these researchers have contributed to Stradbroke's understanding of it's past, and have been able to find further information out for their own research. The Local History Group are very keen for this to continue and invite anyone researching their family to join this site, and put up their own page ('My Page') about their research. This allows Stradbroke residents and other family history researchers to help and ask their own questions!
