A really nice feature of this new website is that you can customise your own information page! When you 'sign in' you might notice the menu at the top of the page changes and a new item called 'My Page' appears. This is what it says - a page for you!
You can change the 'theme' (colours and patterns) for your page very easily (look at the menu on the left) - and most importantly - put up a 'photo' to replace the village sign silhouette that comes up by default! It'd be great to see a photo, but some people prefer to use a cartoon, or a picture of something that represents their interests.
Your 'My Page' is good place to put a little information about yourself - eg your family history research or village interests so other members can see it, and maybe share info with you! This is also the page where you can share photographs too - it would be lovely to see pictures of the village old or new or ancestors from the village for example!
Have a play with it and have a look at what others have done with their 'My Page' by clicking on 'Members' in the menu!
Most of all though, 'Welcome' we're pleased you've joined and hope you find the site enjoyable.

About Me:
I'm descended from James Backhouse a sucessful police constable who was born in 1840 in Stradbroke (or possibly Tannington). From the 1841 census I note that at a year old he is living in Hoxne Union Workhouse with a 20 year old pauper, Ann Backhouse who is presumably his unmarried mother.. In the 1851 census he is an 11 year old pauper in Hoxne (probably still in the workhouse) with no trace of Ann who presumably passed away in between.
From a list of 1841 census surnames I also noticed that there are only 2 Backhouse's in the parish then, both mine. So i was hoping someone on here may have come across the name in local records or maybe be able to suggest how I could find out more.
Thanks
P.S. Any tips on how to make a visit to the area would be handy too as I can't imagine coach trips or the trains go there.
