I am the GG grandson of Joseph Ling and Hannah Emery who farmed in Stradbroke in the early to late 1800s. We can take the Emery tree back a little further but are stuck on the Ling side. Would be very interested to hear from anyone who knows more about this large family and their Stradbroke roots.

Hi Peter, Sam and Norah Ling farmed at Brooklands Farm, Mill Lane Stradbroke 30/40,s.Horham Strict Baptist chapel records might be of help concerning "Ling" family.
Ken Cole.
Thanks Peter, it's interesting you had also found the William Ling/Elizabeth Bloomfield/Broomfield connection, and I had heard mention of a Joseph Ling being possible grandfather of Edward and Joseph jun, maybe that was where the confusion regarding father's name on his marriage certificate arose. I am also on Ancestry, listed as Parkins/Tarry tree. I'm sure Edward and Joseph were baptised somewhere and hopefully one of us will find it soon!!
Hi Peter.
Lovely to get your message, we live in Essex and have visited Stradbroke. Would be very happy to compare trees. The Emery family is not as large as the Ling family we seem to breed Girls. Would be very happy to give you any information I have. Not sure how to download info on this site my personal e mail is barbaraemery@lineone.net.Will also put outline on this site for the benefit of others. Look forward to hearing from you Barbara
Hello Peter
On both the 1841 and 1851 census, Joseph Ling was living with his 'brother' Edward Ling. However, when Edward married Charlotte Ward he gave his father as William Ling, but when Joseph married Hannah Emery he gave his father as Joseph Ling. This is where some confusion has arisen because I have been unable to find a baptism for either of them to confirm their parentage. Edward's place of birth varies between Hoxne and Athelington on the different censuses, and I have searched both baptism registers with no success. There is a William Ling who married Elizabeth Bloomfield at Southolt around the right time who I thought were possible parents for Edward, but I have also checked there and no baptism. I even ordered the death certificate of a William Ling who died in Stradbroke in 1840 hoping it would be registered by either Edward or Joseph, but it was registered by an unrelated person who was 'in attendance', so not much help. I'd be interested to know if any of this ties in with what you have found out.
Regards
