We have enjoyed a good August after a rather wet July, where things are starting to get quite dry. It's worth keeping an eye on shrubs and trees that are struggling, particularly any that are under the canopy of large trees. September is a busy month with harvesting and cutting back tired summer growth. Plants that benefit from a good tidy are Alchemilla mollis, Nepeta, Salvia (herbaceous ones) and Geraniums. Harper Family

I am researching my family history and my Great Grandfather was born in Fressingfield, his name is Frederick Harper and he was born in 1875/1876.



His father is Charles, and I have now found all of Frederick's military information. he joined the army on 27th April 1896 at Norwich.



On the information sheets I have his father is listed as living at Church Lane, Stradbroke, Suffolk and it also names some of his siblings, Charles, John, Harry, Reginald and Arthur.

Combine harvester burns in field.

Published Date: 16 August 2009

A combine harvester caught fire in a north Suffolk field on Saturday.
Four fire crews were called to Boathall Farm in Laxfield at 4.13pm

The crews, from Framlingham, Halesworth, Saxmundham and Harleston used hose reel jets and water from a nearby pond to tackle the fire.

The combine was left to burn under the control of the fire service who were finished at the scene at 5.16pm

August 2009

At last we have had a good amount of rain, it came just in time as the ground was starting to get very dry. Don't be fooled though, plants in pots still require watering even if it has been raining. If you are going away and you don't have anyone to water them move them to a shady corner and put trays under the pots to hold extra water. Any plants that are newly planted will also require watering in dry spells to help them establish.
