Stradbroke Village Website

As promised it was a fantastic afternoon of fun and sport for all. Spectators and competitors alike basked in glorious sunshine to enjoy our first games event and help us pick our Stradbroke-All-Stars for the upcoming Inter-Village Games event in Metfield. The green at Westhall proved to be an ideal sized location for this very traditionally styled event full of charm, community spirit and a very late arriving ice cream van!

The Stradbroke mile was won by a stunning performance from Soren Royds who took everyone by surprise when he out-sprinted the consistent leader to win in the final few metres of the race. Soren went on to win the penalty shoot out for the under 16s beating the goalie with 2 fantastic strikes in an unbeatable time of 14 seconds. He also picked up first place in the three-legged race for the over 9s with team mate Howard Preston-Brown and also the very entertaining egg-thowing competition with partner Thomas Hargrave. Howard also picked up first place in the Sack race for his age group and Thomas gained first places in the egg & spoon race for his age group as well as the 80m sprint for his age group.

Zara Featley won the girls egg and spoon race as well as the basketball shoot-out and the obstacle race for her age group but the fair play award goes to Courtney Chilvers who seemed to be the only egg and spoon competitor not to cheat!

Jack Smith was clearly on familiar ground and posed no threat to his opposition by winning his 60m sprint race and bean bag race. James Green picked up first place in the 40m sprint, the under 6s scootathon and the under 8s obstacle race. Dad Adrian manged to get a consolation for his second place in the mile run by winning the 80m sprint and brother Sam picked up first place in the very amusing three-legged race with jubilant team mate Owen Hargrave.

Jon Ransome shone as another sporting star by winning his age-groups sprint race and sack race. Josh Ryan won the penalty shoot-out for the under 12s and sister Ellie won the girls bean bag race.

Brandon Edward-Oakes won the under 9s egg and spoon race and the over 5s scootathon. Ryan Pleasance picked up 2 firsts in the sack race (joint first with Kyle Edwards) and the obstacle race whilst Dad Stephen won the wellie throwing for 16s and over.

Dylon Thorndyke also picked up two first places in the wellie throwing for the under 16s and the obstacle race for over 12s and under 20s.

Jack Goddard outshone the rest of the field and easily won the slow bike race, having to speed up to get to the finish line much to the relief of the very patient watching crowd.

The over-subscribed wheelbarrow race was turned into a relay and Lewis Harveys team won while the watching crowd were highly entertained.

The final spectacle was the very amusing adults obstacle race, won by Chris Brundan.
