Stradbroke Village Website

Following a week of pre-events including clay pigeon shooting, treasure hunt, quiz, carpet bowls, darts, pool, cribbage, rounders and football the Stradbroke All-Stars (SAS) team put in an outstanding performance in the Inter-Village sports final day events and managed to wow the competition and WIN!!

The points gained from the pre-events meant that Stradbroke were already in pole position before the final track and field events on the sports day. The first event was the cross country, where we played our joker card on male athlete, Chris Clarke. Chris did not disappoint and came in streets ahead of the other competitors. Julia Green also won the womens cross country giving the SAS team maximum points for the first two events.

The events were all being taken very seriously and our nearest competitors, Badingham (reigning champions from last year), managed to spot that we had inadvertently put in a under 30 competitor in the wheelbarrow race relay when we needed a male and female competitor over 30. Our winning 10 points from that event were therefore removed through disqualification. Points were close between the villages during the final few events but the obstacle race team managed to come in 3rd place and secure enough final points overall for Stradbroke to win, only 4 points ahead of the fiercely competitive Badingham team.

There were stunning performances from Meade Clarke and Sam Green in the under 9s bean bag race where we came 1st and 2nd respectively. Aaron Pleasance and Zara Featley also managed 1st and 2nd place respectively in the egg & spoon race.

Soren Royds and Hattie Clarke paired up to form the under 16 boy/girl star-team, competing in many of the events and scoring many valuable points for the team.

Don Darling, Adrian Green, Eira + John Featley and Stephen + Ryan Pleasance were all fantastic sports and competed as part of the team to secure valuable points. Stradbrokian spectators Mo, Helen and Keziah were even picked out of the crowd to join the team and competed in some of the events and final relay races, Helen's team winning the wheelbarrow race (or so we thought).

Well done to all those who came along, competitors and spectators alike. We look forward to putting our best team forward again next year.
