NEWS ITEMS

Housing

The Parish Council would like to thank all who participated in the recent Housing Needs Survey. There was a good return rate of 31.25%. The analysis of the data illustrated a requirement of eight
affordable homes in the village. A meeting would be convened between a
Working Party of the Parish Council, Suffolk ACRE’s Housing Enabler, her
counterpart at MSDC and a representative from Flagship Housing to discuss the
findings and ways to move forward.

Sheltered Housing

There would be reductions in the warden service at MSDC’s sheltered complexes. Residents would still have call buttons for emergencies but fewer complexes would have a resident warden; those remaining would share the
responsibilities.

MSDC

Cllr Gemmill reported that joint working with Babergh District Council would continue as economies continue to be sought in local government. MSDC wholeheartedly supported the proposed gym facility at Stradbroke Pool and,
if planning permission was forthcoming, it should be ready by the end of 2010.

Cllr Gemmill announced his nomination as Chairman Elect of MSDC and was warmly congratulated.

SCC

Cllr McGregor reported briefly that an unexpected amount of money had been granted to the County Council by central government for repairs to potholes throughout the county however, there would be a need for severe cost
savings regardless of the result of the general election.

Police

PCSO Steven Long was pleased to report Stradbroke had been a crime free zone for the past month.
